Let’s Get Real…and a Giveaway! – CLOSED

Simply French Bread CutI have been asked many times by my peers, “How do you do it?”   I’ll say, “do what?”  Then, they will follow up with some sort of “How do you have time to make dinner every night for your family?”  Or, if someone invites us over for dinner, they will make sure to add some disclosure about their cooking not being completely homemade and therefore is not “Pennies on a Platter” standard.   I think this is all flattering and such, but let’s set the record straight:

I do not cook dinner every night (nor will I ever!) and there is no such level of cooking as “Pennies on a Platter” standard.

Gasp!  <Pause>

So this leads me to today’s giveaway.  When I was contacted by Pillsbury to review their new Simply… line and then host a giveaway for their products, I jumped at the chance.  Why?  Because I love Pillsbury products <gasp, again!> and use them often <gasp, gasp….breathe!>.  🙂Simply French Bread

After thinking about it, I can see why my friends and family think I might make everything from scratch.  These are the majority of the recipes that I post on the blog.  It’s just that there’s not really much to a post on how I bake my Pillsbury biscuits, for instance.  You feeling me?

Wednesday I posted this recipe in which I use the Pillsbury crescent rolls.  It’s one of our regular meals.  Today, I’m giving you the chance to win a Pillsbury prize package.  Pillsbury recently introduced two new products called Simply…Buttermilk Biscuits and Simply…Rustic French Bread.  This is the information they gave me before I decided to try them out:

They really are the perfect solution for home cooks who are busier than ever, but still want to nurture those they love with something home-baked that they can feel good about serving. What’s great is that they are made with wholesome ingredients, including flour, buttermilk and sugar. They also contain zero grams of trans fat, no high fructose corn syrup and no artificial colors or flavors.

And, that’s exactly how I felt about the biscuits and French bread when I tried them.  Although in the past few years I’ve learned to make numerous bread recipes from scratch, I’m never embarrassed to prepare refrigerated doughs when I just don’t have the time to wait for the yeast to do it’s thing and then bake the loaf for an hour.   Being highly involved in our church and community, time is limited and this probably holds true for many.  I actually encourage you to stock up on some Pillsbury products and see what you can create!  It beats spending the money to eat out, right?

This prize package includes a bread basket, bread board, artisan honey and a spreader, along with coupons to try their new Simply… products.  To enter the giveaway, please leave a comment of your favorite Pillsbury product.  If you don’t have one, then please tell me which product you would like to try.  And, if you are not familiar with their line, then head on over to their website to see what they have to offer. If you browse around a little, you’ll find some easy and delicious recipes!

The giveaway is limited to domestic US residents only, one entry per person. Those who do not follow the terms will not be considered.  Comments will close on Sunday, February 20 at 8 PM PST and I’ll announce the winner next week.  Although the giveaway is sponsored by Pillsbury, the opinions shared in this post are mine.

Good luck!

  30. Crescent rolls, hands down, are my absolute fav! They are so versatile – from making awesome breakfast pastries to my son’s fav – pigs-n-a-blanket.

  31. I use Pilsbury occassionally too, even though I make dinner most nights (though like you i will probably NEVER make meals EVERY night!). I like their biscuits and their cookie dough and I’ve tried the Simply line and like it. I like that there isn’t as much preservatives and chemicals in the Simply line as in the regular line. Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  32. Either the crescent rolls or the cinnamon rolls… yum! My dad used to make one or the other for Sunday breakfast before church.

  33. I definitely love their crescent rolls the best. They are so versatile and can be used from simple sides, to appetizers, to main dishes with a few ingredient substitutions.

  34. Nothing can beat the crescent rolls. They make absolutely the best pigs in a blanket ever. And now I know what I’ll do with those hot dogs that someone gave me. . .

  35. My favorite has to be crescent rolls because they are so dang versatile! They are wonderful on their own. Wrapped around a hot dog and cheese — comfort food heaven! Wrapped around Lil Smokies and cheese — hordeoerves. They’re perfect for quick cinnamon rolls, and oh, wrapped around bananas and Nutella. Yikes I’m hungry now!

  36. I really love their Grands Biscuits, but am looking forward to trying their “Simply” line too!

  37. You just can’t beat Pillsbury’s crescent rolls! They’re DELISH by themselves, and a great vessel for countless other dinners – taco pockets, bacon cheeseburger pockets, crust for appetizer pizzas, the list goes on!! 🙂

  38. Oooh! We just started making homemade pizzas and I love their pizza dough! Yum!!

  39. I’m partial to crescent rolls. It would make my day if they came out with Simply Crescent rolls

  40. Wholeheartedly agree! I make killer chocolate chip cookies from scratch (if I do say so myself), but I really enjoy the simply chocolate chip cookies from pillsbury. They are perfect in a pinch, like when you need to send a batch of cookies to school and don’t have the time or ingredients. I keep them in the fridge!

  41. I do love their lowfat line – especially the pizza dough. While I am watching what eat, it is a really good way to go sometimes.

  47. Jason and I love their orange cinnamon rolls. They have become a Christmas tradition in our house (as well as the occasional Saturday treat). We also use their thin pizza crust for our almost weekly BBQ chicken pizza.

  48. I love the good ol’ crescent rolls. There’s nothing like them 🙂

  49. I love the crescent rolls, I can shape them in different ways or stuff them with yummy ingredients. Good stuff!

  50. I love their Cinnamon Rolls. They are delish and for me hold wonderful memories from when I was a kid. My father passed away 3 years ago and I miss him dearly. He loved to make breakfast for us on the weekends and we loved to eat his breakfasts! Often he’d make the Pillsbury Cinnamon rolls and let us help him ice them. I must say a difficult feat considering how much my siblings and I loved to sneak the frosting out of the can before they made it to the rolls. Wonderful warm memories for me and traditions that I am carrying on with my own children.

  51. I love the italian and french bread. They are quick, so I can focus on the main dish for supper!

  52. The Pillsbury pre-made rounds of pie crust are my best friend. They are not only good for filled pies like lemon meringue and pumpkin, but they make creating beautiful lattice-woven fruit pies a breeze. I never bother trying to make my pie crusts from scratch anymore, because it’s too hard to beat the smooth, flaky consistency of the Pillsbury pie dough.

  53. My favorite product is the Pillsbury layer biscuts! so yummy!

  54. Funfetti cake mix, all the way! Although I love their pizza crust – great for a quick and tasty meal!

  64. Wait, so my “confession” on our favorite cooking site has become a give-away?!?!?! Nice. As you may remember, I love this new “simply” line. It tastes great, and it convenient for weeknight cooking, all while being made of natural ingredients. I hope they’re working on crescent rolls in this line. I’ll be so excited!

  65. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that their cinnamon rolls are my favorite!

  66. I use the brownie mix a LOT, and I love their Grands Buttermilk biscuits.

  67. I would have to say my favorite is their french bread. I have tubes (Pampered Chef) that I use to bake sweet shapes and they are a party pleaser! I sometimes will lightly toast them and serve them with a variety of dips, Bruschetta, Brie, whatever the mood dictates! Love them!!! And they consistently turn out nice!!! Not always the case with some products!

  68. I would have to pick Crescent Rolls 🙂 It is truly like the commercial at our house when we get down to the last one, my husband usually wins the battle!

  69. I like their crescent rolls, and their pizza dough is fabulous when I don’t have enough time to make my own!

  77. My kids all love the cinnamon rolls, especially the orange ones! They’re a treat on Sunday Morning, when we want a little something different, but don’t have a lot of time before church. I also love the pizza crust for making pizza pockets, cut one up into 6 or 8 pieces, and wrap up a bit of sauce, pepperoni & cheese. Yummy and quick.

  78. As a family we love making cheese zombies (best compared to a baked grilled cheese but better!) The school I work at makes the fresh bread dough from scratch but we use the canned french bread dough as a shortcut with an unhealthy amount of processed cheese! I’m excited to try the simple version of the french bread…making it just a tad bit healthier/natural

  79. I grew up on Pillsbury Crescent rolls!! Being the youngest of ten children my mother rarely had time to make fresh bread,(when she did it was phenomenal) so I was often asked to grab the Pillsbury Crescent rolls package and start rolling them up and put them in the oven! 86. My favorite are Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. I like them the “old schoool” way – wrapped around a hotdog with cheese inside!

  87. I love their reduced fat cinnamon rolls. They don’t even taste low fat. I end up eating most of them. 🙂 I also use the crescent rolls for recipes, when I actually do cook. 😉

  88. I have a tie for my favorites. I like the flaky biscuits, because I will split them open and stuff them with ham and cheddar or mozzarella and pepperoni, and they make great on the go snacks. Pretty similar to your creamy chicken pockets, but easier and probably not as yummy. 🙂

  113. I’m a Pillsbury biscuits kind of girl. Love them with my homemade strawberry jam or made into Monkey Bread. Though I have to admit, I’ve never had really good homemade biscuits. Then again, maybe this isn’t the type of thing you’re supposed to admit to on a food blog.
