Homemade Baby Food: Pineapple

Judah Picking Pineapple

You saw my lengthy previous post on how to dice a pineapple.  Now, go ahead and use this information to dice it up for your baby, if you think he is ready (*see below).  Judah is now almost 10 months old and eating finger foods.  I’m still serving him some purees, as well, but he’s getting pretty good at picking up his own food and feeding himself, so I thought I’d let him pick up the diced pineapple on his own.  (Haven’t tried letting him spoon feed himself yet, though.  I’ll have to wear a poncho that day.)

Checking out the photo above, you’ll notice that it was pretty difficult for him to pick up that slimy piece of pineapple with only his forefinger and thumb.  He tried and tried, until I eventually gave in and fed it to him!

And, his reaction?

Oh my!  🙂  He obviously didn’t like it, at first.  But, as I mentioned before, don’t give up on your little one when he shows he doesn’t like a certain food.  Wait and try again, or in my case this time, serve it a different way.  I went ahead and pureed the pineapple, then gave it to him.  His reaction that time?

Priceless!  🙂

*Some parents will prefer to wait to introduce pineapple to their baby until the age of 1 year because of the acidity, but I decided to introduce Judah to pineapple this week because he hasn’t had any sensitive reactions to any other food.  I started with a little, to make sure it didn’t upset his tummy or give him any rashes.  Additionally, pineapple can be hard for babies to chew, so you want to watch him carefully to make sure he’s handling it okay.  If he can’t seem to chew it that well, I would suggest pureeing it until he’s ready for that next step.

  2. Love the reaction! Thats just too stinkin’ funny!

  3. Thank you for this blog post. I have been introducing some things here and there and today I realized that carrots caused a slight rash on my little girl. I look forward to reading more post about you feeding your cute baby.. Here is a post I did on Water vs. Juice. I am right now trying to decide how long to wait to introduce meat. What are your thoughts?

    • Ashlee,

Thanks for stopping by! I checked out your post and agree with you on the water vs juice thoughts. (You’ll see my comment) 🙂

As far as your question on meat, I introduced meat for protein to Judah at 7 months as advised by my pediatrician. He has had chicken, turkey and beef. He didn’t like the texture at first, but is fine with it now. I might share a recipe or two in the near future. Haven’t had a chance to snatch good pics yet. lol

      Thanks, again!

  5. What a great blog! Love the “little chef” too! Will he be taking Ben’s place as the chief taste-tester?

    Thanks for a great blog!
