Peanut Butter Doggy Pretzels

Peanut Butter Doggy Pretzels

Ben and I just returned from visiting my family in Michigan.  My sister was also visiting from Colorado with her two dogs (golden retrievers) which made for three dogs in the house all weekend when counting my parents little Shih Tzu.  But, this was my first time meeting my sister’s dogs, so I wanted to be a favorite “aunt” and make a good first impression on them.  🙂  How was I going to do that?  How about making them some yummy treats!?

If you remember, I made Dog Treats a few months ago and sent them to my sister’s dog along with the other dogs in my family.  It seems we are the only ones from both sides of our families who do not own a dog, so I love the opportunity to make dog treats for friends and families.

I searched the Internet and chose a recipe with the least amount of ingredients so I wouldn’t have to run to the store.  To make it a little more fun, I shaped them into pretzels.  Next time, I’ll make them about half the size, as they didn’t harden up as much as I wanted and were just a little too big for one helping.

Peanut Butter Doggy Pretzels

Printable Recipe

2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
1 cup Peanut Butter
1 cup Milk
1 Tablespoon Baking Powder

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Lightly grease 2 cookie sheets.

In one bowl, combine dry ingredients.  In another bowl, combine milk and peanut butter.  Mix dry ingredients into the wet, making sure to mix completely.

Shape the treats how you like.  I took a little handful then rolled it and twisted it into a pretzel shape.  My tip (if you do this) is to press hard when rolling, or the lack of force will make the dough crumble and separate.

The treats do not expand much so you only need to leave about 1/2 inch between them. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden brown.   Store in an airtight container.
