Penny Pincher: Eat Lunch

I know what you’re thinking.  “Eat lunch!?  That’s the tip you have for me today, Penny!? I eat lunch every day and it doesn’t save me any money!”

Okay, okay… let me explain, before you throw an even bigger fit! 🙂

My blog hit 100,000 visitors this week.  No, I didn’t receive 100,000 hits just in this one week.  This counter has been ticking since day one, two years ago.  So, yes, it took 2 years to hit 100G’s (as is the lingo in my household) but it still feels like an awesome accomplish.  Especially when my husband is so very excited about it that he suggested taking me out to a surprise lunch today to celebrate!  I love him.

Oh!  You are probably still wondering where the penny pincher tip comes in here, aren’t you?  I’m getting to it…just let me bask in my glory for another half a second.

Alright, on to what you came here to read.  After all, it is because of YOU that my blog reached 100,000 hits.  Thank YOU!

The restaurant Ben surprised me with is a place I’ve been wanting to go to for a very long time, but it is SO expensive I just always passed it off.  It’s a Churrascaria, which is a Brazilian all-you-can-eat steakhouse, called Texas de Brazil.  Dinner is around $43/person.  This does not include drinks, dessert, tax or tip.  Yeah, not so penny pinching.

Well, let me tell you what my dear hubby found out.  The lunch menu is just as fantastic, but is only half the price!  At $20 a person, it is almost all the same food at a fraction of the cost!  Of course, $20/person is still more than we usually like to spend…but to celebrate something like YOU visiting my blog 100,000 times…well, I just have to say it’s darn well worth it!

At this Churrascaria, you don’t choose from a menu.  You just pay the amount for the ‘buffet’ (and I use that term loosely because it’s not an Old Country, Ponderosa, or Golden Corral type buffet…yuck!)  This is actually super elegant, gourmet choices!  (Need to clarify. I’m not a food snob and have enjoyed many meals at the other buffets listed above in the past. Please, please, please don’t be offended.  I just felt the necessity to point out that they are not on the level of a Churrascaria buffet. Besides, I know deep down you were thinking the same thing.)

In addition to the buffet, you are greeted by many carvers, acting as Gauchos (look it up), that will slice off a piece of your favorite meat.  If you are too full and want to relax a bit from the meat, then you are provided with a card that you can turn over to red which will stop them from coming to your table.  Otherwise, keep it on the green side and you will have a plethora of steak, chicken, lamb and sausage.

(pausing to drool)

The salad buffet is truly outstanding with its choices of rice, greens, veggies, cheese, breads, and other delicious sides.  And, to top it off, at your table you will be welcomed with a basket of tiny little cheese bread rolls, mashed potatoes and fried bananas.  Who needs dessert!?

We’ll definitely go again.  Heck, we might even start a budget for this place.  What do you think?  Is a cash envelope with the title “Texas de Brazil” justifiable?  🙂   Maybe you should hit up my blog another 100,000 times so we can celebrate again!

[Unfortunately, I was so into my food that I forgot to take a picture of the first plate I made…which included much more than pictured above. And, I was using my iPhone camera. Guess you’ll have to go and experience it for yourself.  Not a bad idea, huh?]

  1. Congratulations on your milestone!! Sounds like your husband is very sweet. Glad you guys celebrated.

  2. I’d call 100,000 a pretty big deal. 🙂

  3. This is one of our favorite restaurants! I like to go and just get the salad bar – its my favorite part of the meal anyway – I could eat the Manchego cheese, prosciutto and fresh asparagus ALL DAY! Oh – and the goat cheese tartine of course! Mmmm….

    Congrats on 100G!
